Ganglion cell-containing neoplasms in the sella turcica are extremely rare. In this report, we demonstrate a case of pituitary gangliocytoma presenting with mass effect and review the literatures. A 60-year-old woman presented with a 3-year history of intractable headache and recent visual dimness. Computed tomography(CT) and magnetic resonance imaging( MRI) scans revealed a mass in the sellar area, partially high signal intensity in gadolinium enhanced T1 images. The visual field examination showed the bitemporal hemianopsia. Pituitary function test was normal on preoperative endocrinologic examination. Through the transsphenoidal approach, tumor removal was performed using surgical microscope.Tumor was shown to be yellowish and friable. Preoperative symptoms were markedly improved. The histopathology was confirmed with gangliocytoma. In this case, we conclude that neoplastic ganglion cell tumor can be an unusual cause of neurological symptoms in sellar region.
